Britney's Bra: Not for Sale
The Britney Spears' bra sale was a bust.

Writing on her Website that she was "concerned" that audiences might confuse the "jewel encrusted" brassiere with the broken cup link for "something that it's not," Spears has removed the undergarment from an eBay-hosted charity auction.

This is the second time the bra has been pulled from the auction site, though the first time Spears has done the pulling.

The fancy frill was the star attraction among a lot of cast-off T-shirts, hats, Funky Munky shorts, jewelry, wristbands, barstools and compact umbrellas once owned, used and, in some cases, modeled by the pop star. All proceeds from the sale were to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated Spears' home state of Louisiana.

Last Wednesday, eBay gatekeepers delisted the big-ticket bra, judging it to be in violation of the site's undergarment policy, which forbids the sale of previously worn delicates. But later that same day, the Spears supporter was back on the block, with the online auction house having decided the bra was more entertainment collectible than used undie.

Bidding was brisk. At one point Thursday afternoon, the relisted lingerie was going for $33,100. By Saturday, the bra peaked at about $47,000. (Those old umbrellas, by comparison, could be had for well under $100.)

Then Spears demurely put the underwire under wraps.

In explaining on her Website why the sale was scrapped four days before its scheduled Oct. 12 close, Spears said that the auction had "exceeded our original expectations," and that she didn't want anybody to feel "misled" by her underwear.

It seems Spears was worried that enthusiastic bidders believed she'd worn the bra--an "intricately designed" twin-assets keeper decorated with "white stones and silver-tone beads"--on stage for her 2001 HBO special, Britney Spears: Live from Las Vegas. She did not. As the eBay listing noted, she wore the brassiere in promos for the special, but not the special itself.

Bra or no, the Spears garage sale produced some big results. Over the weekend, according to a press release, a pair of jeans went for $4,001; a tank top with the inscription, "I Have the Golden Ticket," for $1,200; and, a pair of Chanel heels for $770.

And the clearance continues. As of Monday, there were 125 artifacts from the Spears archives still up for bid on eBay, among them: Chaise lounge chairs; a Dixie Chicks tour tank top; and a pair of Nike sports socks. The most-desired item: A long black Gucci dress--an inexplicable size 38--with, at last check, a high bid of $960.

On kicking big-time butt, making big-screen love and changing tiny diapers
He has prodigious pecs, granite glutes and millions of fans who watch him tear up the ring on TV's Smackdown. Now, Dwayne Johnson, aka the Rock, is determined to be more than a sideshow on the big screen with his new star-making flick, The Scorpion King.

In his first movie appearance for The Mummy Returns, he didn't get to talk, and much of his body was covered in the guise of a multiclawed monster. But don't worry, the Rock is in full-oiled splendor in the new prequel, and we're here to tell you those muscles are the real deal.

Chuck Russell, who directed The Scorpion King, reveals how carefully the tactics were mapped out to turn the crowd-pleasing Rock--known for quotable battle cries like "Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?" and his trademark cocking of an eyebrow, usually the prelude to decking an opponent--into a big-screen superstar.

First came the executive decision: There would be only one eyebrow raise in the film. Then there were meetings at the highest level at Universal to determine just which scene would be the one for this famed close-up. Finally, the fateful judgment came: The Rock would strike the pose just as he encounters a bevy of beauties in a harem. Audiences cheer at this pivotal moment.

The adulation has been a long time coming. After playing football at the University of Miami, his dreams of a pro career were dashed when he was passed over by the NFL; he ended up making ends meet by playing on the practice squad for a Canadian-football-league team. Since his father and grandfather were wrestlers, he tried the mat, but he was lukewarm at the WWF for the first year. It wasn't until he invented the Rock character that things exploded.

As the Rock, you've kicked a lot of butt. Now we're going to see you doing something that may surprise your fans: You're very sensual on the big screen in your first love scene. Were you nervous?
Let's put it this way: I'd rather hit someone over the head with a chair. I'm kidding, but I'm always aware that a lot of people aren't really excited to watch an action guy kiss a girl, for some odd reason. I've felt that way myself watching action movies, whether it's Arnold, Stallone or Bruce Willis. I see them kiss the girl, and I go: No! So, that was my concern. But even though I'd never been in a romantic scene, I'm not afraid to step outside the box. If I hit a grounder and not a home run on the love scene...well, at least I tried.

How was the big moment with Kelly Hu?
First and foremost, I was worried about making her comfortable, because there were a lot of guys on the set, and she wasn't exactly fully clothed. So, I was always cracking jokes. Before we kissed I went, "Here, you need an Altoid. Take the whole box, please." I was trying to make her feel at ease, and that took my mind off myself.

Good News, Bad News for Lindsay Lohan
It was supposed to be a good week for Lindsay Lohan. Everyone's favorite teenage drama queen just signed on to pitch a line of high-end purses and, on Friday, she will celebrate her 18th birthday.

But thanks to her dad, the celebratory mood has soured.

Once again, her paternal unit is in hot water with the cops. On the heels of his arrest in May for a scuffle with his brother-in-law comes word of yet another arrest, this time for skipping out on a hotel bill.

Michael Lohan was busted Tuesday in Long Island for ducking out on a $3,800 bill at a posh local hotel last April. Apparently, he booked some suites for guests and refused to pay the bill, despite multiple attempts at collection by the management of the Oheka Castle hotel.

Lawyers for the now infamous dad say the arrest boils down to a bad credit card.

"As far as I know, Michael arranged to have the bill paid via credit card, and for reasons he was not aware of, the card did not go through," Lohan's attorney Marvin Hirsch told New York Newsday. "No one contacted him, no one let him know the bill didn't get paid, and next thing you know, two cops show up at the courthouse."

The elder Lohan was released from jail on $250 bond (let's hope he paid cash) after being charged with misdemeanor for theft of services.

Tuesday was a double whammy for him. Daddy dearest was picked up by the cops for the hotel-bill flap following a court appearance for that May family feud. In the latter case, he is facing assault charges for allegedly slapping around his brother-in-law during a first communion bash. He's also facing prosecution next week in Manhattan for losing his temper and punching a sanitation worker in the face for blocking his car into a parking space.

Aside from the whole father fiasco, the Freaky Friday star is marking the days until she can vote and legally date That '70s Show's Wilmer Valderrama in high style. Literally. She has just been recruited as the new face of Dooney & Bourke handbags.

She will be the pitchwoman in a new ad campaign for a new line of waterproof canvas purses. The handbags, featuring enamel charms spelling out Dooney & Bourke and another line featuring hearts drawn out in crayon colors, will be available starting in August.

Meanwhile, Lindsay is keeping busy with her new role as Hollywood's hottest It Girl. She recently hosted the MTV Movie Awards and an episode of Saturday Night Live and starred in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Her latest flick, Mean Girls, opened in May to strong reviews and the number-one spot at the box office. And she recently signed on again with Disney, who gave her her first big break in a remake of The Parent Trap, for a remake of the 1968 flick The Love Bug.

Pop princess Britney gives birth to her prince
Britney Spears has finally become a mom, according to reports from Us Weekly that suggest the 23-year-old pop star gave birth to a baby boy by Caesarean at Santa Monica’s UCLA Medical Center, near Los Angeles. Although the news is yet to be confirmed by Spears’ publicist, reports indicate that the baby could be named London Preston or Preston Michael.

Spears and husband Kevin Federline were married last September, around the time the bashful bride announced she was taking time off to focus on marriage and motherhood. “The only thing I haven’t done so far is experience the closest thing to God and that’s having a baby. I can’t wait,” she gushed.

US Potter sales exceed 11 million
Published nine weeks ago, the American edition of the book sold 6.9 million copies in its first 24 hours.

The release of the sixth instalment in Rowling's saga has also boosted sales of the previous five episodes.

"We are thrilled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues to break publishing records," said Lisa Holton of Scholastic Children's Trade Books.

"It is clearly a modern classic," she added.

The previous Potter book, Order of the Phoenix, sold 5 million copies in the US in its first 24 hours and more than 11 million hardcover copies overall.

More than 116.5 million copies of Rowling's books have been printed in the US.

The fourth Harry Potter film, Goblet of Fire, is released in the UK on 18 November.
